Among recent cannabis studies, one of the latest discoveries and a real revelation is THCP.
We are still investigating its properties and possible effects at every level, but we now also have enough information to know what it is and why it is so important. Smoking Paper is here to explain all about it!

Firstly, let’s begin by saying what THCP actually is. Its acronym corresponds to the term lta-9-tetrahydrocannabiphorol, commonly referred to as tetrahydrocannabiphorol, and it is a cannabinoid.
In fact, the cannabis plant has over 120 cannabinoids and THCP is one of the latest to be found.
It was discovered in 2016 by a team of Italian researchers. There is still so much to learn about this component and its effects. The first thing to do is make a clear differentiation between THCP and THC.
THC is tetrahydrocannabinol, the most famous component of cannabis, especially due to its effects it causes.
However, while there is a large content of this component in the cannabis plant, THCP is relatively scarce.
At the moment, it is on record that THCP binds with CB1 receptors up to 33 more times than THC. This means that even with a reduced amount of THCP, the effects can be far superior. Despite this, it is yet to fully demonstrate this capacity.
The first thing to remember about THCP is that the effects it can have on the human body are unknown. We recommend you use your filters and rolling papers with legal products that have been officially studied and which allow you to know what it is you are smoking.
In fact, this year we are celebrating Smoking Paper’s centenary year, a century during which we have enjoyed countless revelations, from the development of our Smoking Thinnest paper to more sustainable rolling paper options.
However, what has always existed is research into tobacco and other smoking products.
That is why it is so surprising that until 2019 there was no record of THCP. This is leading many professionals to proceed and continue with their research into the possible effects of this cannabinoid.
The initial impression is that its excessive consumption can cause dry mouth, dizziness, and even lethargy. However, this largely depends on the other cannabinoids in the respective plant. Based on these, it could also produce other effects such as relaxation or enhanced mental capacity.
What is clear is that its psychoactive effect is much quicker and more intense than traditional THC in any situation.
However, if the theoretical strength of THCP is so high, there is also the possibility that its therapeutical properties are just as significant.
If this is the case, its capacity to relieve some medical symptoms may lead it to be considered as a priority ingredient for certain treatments, specifically those aimed at patients seeking pain relief or wanting to target certain discomforts related to their sickness.
