Arten von Marihuana und ihre Auswirkungen

Guides

Just as Smoking offers a great variety of rolling papers, when it comes to marijuana you will also find many types.

Each plant offers different leaves that have different effects. So it is something you should be quite clear about before choosing which one to grow.

The four types of marijuana plants that exist

Generally speaking, there are 4 types of marijuana plants. They are the most well-known and the most used in cultivation. We list them below:

Cannabis sativa

The cannabis sativa variety is the classic one, the one that pops into your mind when you think of marijuana with its typical characteristic leaf.

It usually comes from South America or Asia, is a tall plant, and mainly grows outdoors.

The sativa variety has a high concentration of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol or THC, so it has both activating and psychoactive effects.

Cannabis indica

Even though many people confuse them, cannabis sativa and cannabis indica have their differences.

Cannabis indica also comes from Asia, but it usually grows naturally in areas of India and Pakistan.

In addition, its leaves are wider than other varieties and the size the plant reaches is intermediate, not as tall as the cannabis sativa.

But perhaps the biggest differences are internal. Its effects are more related to physical relaxation. In fact, many medicines include cannabis indica for this reason.

Cannabis ruderalis

It is slightly less known and grows naturally in areas such as Russia or Siberia.

Because it grows in such extreme temperatures, it is a very resistant plant. But it also has a compact size and fewer branches than other varieties.

As for their effects, they are more relaxing than activating, because they have a high concentration of CBD, but low THC content.

Hybrids

All the previous marijuana types are natural, that is, they can grow without human action.

However, thanks to different tests, cannabis cultivation experts have been able to search for innovations to create a new type of marijuana. This is how hybrids were born.

There are many possibilities for hybrids, but generally, these 4 types of marijuana plants are mixed:

  • Sativa plant by indica, with a dominance of the first one.
  • Indica plant by sativa, with a dominance of the first one.
  • Plant derived from two indica types
  • Plant derived from two sativa types.

Types of marijuana

When talking about marijuana types and their effects, in practice we look mainly at 2 key elements to differentiate them, THC and CBD, since the higher the concentration of each of them has different results.

THC Marijuana

THC marijuana is the one with the highest concentration of tetrahydrocannabinol in its composition.

This psychoactive compound can cause the most important effects, especially related to euphoria or increased appetite, among many others.

CBD Marijuana

As you can imagine, CBD marijuana is the one with the highest concentration of cannabidiol, a non-psychoactive compound that has no side effects and, in fact, can counteract the psychoactivity of THC.

Some medicinal effects of CBD have also become evident, related to relaxation, the treatment of anxiety, seizures, and even neuroprotection.

Types of marijuana and their effects

So you are preparing your marijuana with a very cool grinder such as the red Mental Vacation and, unless you have a lot of control, you won’t be able to distinguish between the available types.

But it is interesting that you know the theory because the effects are different depending on the type of plant:

  • Cannabis sativa: energising and stimulant effects, useful for treating fatigue and lack of appetite.
  • Cannabis indica: relaxing and sedative effects, useful for treating pain, insomnia, or anxiety.
  • Cannabis ruderalis: relaxing effects, but very low level.
  • Cannabis hybrid: different effects depending on the type of combination chosen.
